Carbon Reduction Plan & PPN/0621 Statement
Company name: RSS Global Limited & UK Subsidiary Companies
Statement date: July 2024
COMMITMENT TO ACHIEVING NET ZERO
RSS Global Limited (“RSS Global”) is committed to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
RSS Global and its operating companies in the United Kingdom are committed to protecting the environment by demonstrating high standards of environmental responsibility in all our operations and minimising the environmental impacts associated with our activities and services. In particular, we recognise the importance of decarbonising our business and we have set a goal for group operations to achieve net zero by 2050.
RSS Global is committed to the long-term sustainability of the recruitment and staffing solutions sector and is working to eliminate carbon (Scope 1 and 2) from its operations by 2030. It has also committed to setting UK wide targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by the end of 2025.
BASELINE EMISSIONS FOOTPRINT
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: 2021 |
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations. |
The baseline calculations cover all UK operations of the company and of its subsidiary companies in territories. Because the nature of our work is principally clerical and delivered from fixed locations, emissions are calculated as location based rather than market based, but our Scope 3 figures have been extended to include all business travel undertaken to support our activities, namely:
The calculations have incorporated the business activities of RSS Global Limited and the following wholly owned subsidiary companies:

A baseline figure has been included for this statement following the formation of RSS Global in 2023 (incorporated on the 13 February 2023) to facilitate the purchase of the trading companies listed above from Impellam Group plc, which completed on the 3 March 2023.
Previously, carbon reporting under PPN 06/21 for these businesses was made under the provision of Impellam Group plc, which incorporated additional subsidiary companies within scope of this statement. However, despite being a new business, we have separated out the carbon emissions from those previously reported by Impellam which relate to the new RSS Global business (both for the trading companies and the central service staff and properties which transferred from Impellam at time of sale) from the last reported figures.

EMISSIONS REDUCTION TARGETS
For this reporting year we have calculated our environmental impact across scope 1, 2 and 3 (selected categories) emission sources for the UK only. Our emissions are presented on a location basis (using the UK grid emissions intensity) and our emissions are 408.89 tCO2e, which is an average impact of 75.18 tCO2e per £100m revenue and below our previously stated target for the reporting year. We have calculated the emission intensity metrics on both a revenue and colleague basis, which we will monitor to track performance in our subsequent environmental disclosures. The methodology used to calculate the Greenhouse Gas (‘GHG’) emissions is in accordance with the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting (2023).
RSS Global’s objective is to reduce UK carbon emissions from 2021 levels by 25% by the end of 2025.
Our reduction targets are stated as follows:
Year ending 2022 – 78.7 tCO2e per £100m revenue
Year ending 2023 – 72.2 tCO2e per £100m revenue
Year ending 2024 – 67.1 tCO2e per £100m revenue
Year ending 2025 – 62.8 tCO2e per £100m revenue
CARBON REDUCTION PROJECTS
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
Our focus in the past year has been to both continue rationalising our property footprint and to extend and encourage working behaviours which were accelerated at the start of the pandemic in 2020. Our overall property footprint continues to decrease as leases expire; where the need for a physical location remains, we have looked to shared spaces which can be used across the business, relocate to more modern and energy efficient sites and utilising flexible working spaces where it is more practicable to do so. All new and existing colleagues are required to undertake mandatory environmental awareness training since the start of 2021 and ensure that they are aware of and understand our Environmental Statement and Environmental Management System.
Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives
We shall continue to refine our property portfolio in line with our existing strategy of moving away from leased properties where practicable and instead utilising serviced, licenced or flexible workspaces where the need for a physical location remains, whilst maintaining our hybrid working initiatives. For example, the downsizing of our two principal locations at the start of 2024 will see our Scope 1 emissions reduce by 25% over the course of the year. We shall continue to implement energy saving measures in our offices where practicable and encourage employees to adopt energy saving practices, such as turning off lights and equipment when not in use. We will recycle 100% of our IT assets at the end of their life cycle in accordance with WEEE waster recycling regulations.
Environmental Awareness Training will remain mandatory for all staff to ensure awareness among employees about the importance of carbon reduction and the role they can play in achieving our sustainability goals and to empower employees to adopt sustainable behaviours both at work and in their personal lives.
The business has also completed phasing out company provided vehicles with the last such vehicles being returned at the end of May 2023; in 2023 we also introduced a new Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme which is available to all UK staff and not just those who previously qualified for a company vehicle or vehicle allowance. We encourage employees to use sustainable modes of transportation, such as car sharing, cycling, walking or using public transport for commuting to work when required and continue t promote remote meetings to reduce the amount of business miles where possible.
We work collaboratively with our suppliers and partners to identify opportunities for carbon reduction throughout our supply chain and prioritise suppliers and vendors with strong sustainabaility credentials and provide mutual support in their transition to low carbon practices.
As previously mentioned, RSS Global will also be working on transitioning to Science Based Targets during the next three years and developing a Net Zero strategy for introduction by 2025 at the latest.
In November 2023, the business acheived certification to ISO14001;2015 and has in place a full Environmental Management System covering the whole of the UK operation which will be maintained on an ongoing basis.
DECLARATION AND SIGN OFF
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard3. However, as we have identified additional Scope 3 emissions fundamental to the operational delivery of the business above the reporting standard, these have been included within the declarations above.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the CEO of RSS Global Limited, Rebecca Watson, on behalf of the Directors.
